The program was started in 1998 helping 5 NGOs has since expanded successfully

How do we do it?

The DOS program has several distribution/collection centers which are headed and personally run by women volunteers across various localities in Chennai. These centers collect and store Dal, Oil, and Sugar from various donors that are then distributed to NGOs/homes on a monthly basis.

Key Facts and Achievements

  • More than 800 families around Chennai currently support this program through donations
  • The program caters to 40+ NGOs/homes in Chennai
  • Around 20,000Kgs of commodities are distributed annually through this program

How can you contribute to this program?

Aligning with the core principle of MSDS, the DOS program strives to initiate and cultivate volunteerism and provide a simple platform for any individual/household in the society to be part of a bigger cause. We believe that any donation, however small, has a tangible impact on the ultimate beneficiaries of this program; the children, the elderly and the mentally/physically challenged.

You can become part of this program by giving in kind one or more units of DOS . Alternatively, you can choose to donate the cost (cash/cheque) of one or more unit of DOS (1 unit of DOS =1Kg of dal, 1 Kg of refined oil and 1Kg of Sugar and Costs ~Rs 250/-). For interested donors, we also arrange donor visits to these NGOs/homes so that they can experience first hand, how their contributions positively impact the well-being of residents.
